In recent years, the need to apply effective and efficient management criteria to the world of sports and sports organizations has increased. The Certificate Course in Sports Management – Marketing offers specialized theory-based and hands-on learning in the field of sports management, including general management, sports marketing (patronage and sponsorship) and the operation of sports venues.
The ever-increasing growth in the practice of sports and popular interest in competition sports, in particular on television and Internet, has significantly raised the socio-economic impact of these activities. Sport has become one of the largest industries in the last decade, contributing a global value of approximately 400 billion US dollars (Business Alert China). In developed countries, this industry directly generates an amount equal to approximately 3% of the GDP.
This programs examines the proliferation of sports events with a worldwide following, and which result in a huge media impact for the organizing entities, as well as an economic impact on the community (a study carried out by PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP concludes that the sports and training market will grow by 6.1% during 2011).
The Certificate Course in Sports Management – Marketing responds to today’s requirements and needs for sports management and forms part of the new market trends, allowing the professional to advance in this field thanks to the high level of qualification acquired upon completion of the program.

CURRICULUM
The program comprises five modules worth 6 ECTS credits each.
Economic analysis of the sports industry
Strategic plans. Analysis of the environment and competition
Business management models and economic aspects
The objective of the first module is to learn about strategic analysis tools for evaluating the impact of major global economic areas and business activity. Students will gain knowledge and put that knowledge into practice, in areas regarding the economic, technological, socio-cultural and legal situations of a sector, allowing students to anticipate and undertake a strategic medium- and long-term strategic assessment and plan.
Students will acquire knowledge of foreign trade to help define the best internationalization strategies for different stages within the market, in any sector.
Módule II: Economics
- Annual accounts for sports clubs and organizations
- Management planning and control of sports entities
- Financial management
The second module aims to train the student to be able to measure and assess the economic impact of activities on corporate results. The student will be equipped to prepare balance sheet analyses and calculations regarding financial operations, in addition to applying financial assessment procedures to investments and analyze different financing methods.

The primary objective of the third module is to equip students with the competences and skills inherent to a manager, which will be worked on throughout the academic program. This module provides the student with fundamental tools to efficiently manage working teams.
Módule IV: Management and Operation of Sports Venues
- Infrastructure management for sports venues

- Quality and incident management
The fourth module is designed to train students in the management of operational procedures for different types of facilities. It additionally tackles the possibilities and impact offered by the latest technologies, as well as different operational strategies for sports venues and events.

- The media and sports
The final fifth module aims to reinforce the students' knowledge regarding strategic and operational marketing. Students will be able to analyze, establish and recommend the best tools for market research, market segmentation and positioning, as well as the operational planning of marketing tools together with their implementation and control. Special emphasis will be placed on best practices for the construction of brands with corporate values that are closely linked to an ethical ideology and social responsibility.

Proceso de admisión
El proceso de admisión para los programas máster de la Escuela de Estudios Universitarios Real Madrid se puede llevar a cabo durante todo el año, si bien la inscripción en cualquiera de sus programas de postgrado está supeditada a la existencia de plazas vacantes. Dado el limitado número de plazas, es recomendable que la solicitud de admisión, debidamente cumplimentada y firmada, junto con la documentación requerida, sea remitida con la mayor brevedad (especialmente en el caso de alumnos internacionales) al Departamento de Admisiones de Postgrado, a través del siguiente correo electrónico: postgrado@uem.es
Una vez recibida la documentación requerida en cada caso, el Departamento de Admisiones de Postgrado iniciará los trámites pertinentes y convocará al candidato a la realización de las pruebas de ingreso correspondientes al programa máster de su interés y a una entrevista personal con el director del máster o con un miembro del Comité de Admisiones.
En la entrevista personal se analiza el potencial de desarrollo del candidato en el programa seleccionado, prestando especial interés a las siguientes habilidades y cualidades específicas: liderazgo, adaptación al cambio, visión estratégica, inteligencia emocional, responsabilidad social y ética, espíritu emprendedor y orientación internacional.
